Turn your relaxation up

Reality is, today we live in a cold yet evolving world. With modern advancements in information and technology we are faced with unimaginable good, bad, short and long term stress. If this stress is not controlled it can be detrimental to our health. Stress-management can better our lives if all issues related to mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being are addressed. Yeah, easier said than done right? When it come down to it, "we just need to train ourselves to surf the waves of adversity rather than to drown in them"(Dacher, 2006). Its seems more and more important to me that we learn how to better our minds so we can then better our bodies and our whole selves...This is where relaxation comes in. I tried out a relaxation exercise "Journey On"  It is an Autogenic training technique that allows you to thou rally relax your mind and body real quick like.

My findings?

My first try with this exercise resulted in an epic fail. An unplanned deep cat nap if you will! I realized it was too late at night and I should try again when I was not so sleepy.

The second time around I tried the exercise mid-day before tackling the days to-do list. I learned how to literally change the flow of blood in my body from my inner core to the outer parts of my body. This seems impossible for us to control but the truth is, 80% of the blood in our bodies resides in our core, once its is pushed throughout the rest of our body, our muscle tension is decreased...Number one symptom of stress? Muscle tension! Not sure if you should believe that we have the power to control our own blood flow? We do so try it,  it works. I have recently been intrigued by the power of various relaxation techniques like; Yoga, Tai Chi, Meditation/ Prayer. I'm telling you right now, those techniques along with my most recent discovery, autogenic training can be very powerful and helpful in the way we deal with the daily stress that life throws at us. 1. This too was my first experience after my first listening...out like a light! I listened the next day when I felt I had a grip on my time, again...out like a light! Third time was a charm, but it also made me realize how much I really needed to listen to it, and my body said I needed rest!
